DAW Foundation

The Vietnamese agricultural sector is growing fast, representing over 18 percent of Vietnam’s current GDP. This puts pressure on the environment and leads to impacts such as the excessive use of pesticides, deforestation and water pollution. The Vietnamese government is committed to moving towards increased sustainability and delivering high-quality agricultural products. This will increase Vietnam’s food security and will improve the economic strength of the sector.  
The Netherlands is keen to play a role in this transition. Dutch knowledge, technology and innovative agricultural products are top-notch and can be put to good use in Vietnam. The two countries have therefore developed a strong relationship during the last decades, signing strategic partnerships in the fields of water and climate adaptation, and agriculture and food security. DAW Foundation was nominated for "National Icon of the Netherlands" in October 2014. About these nominations, an interview with the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp was published in de Telegraaf on 5 November 2014.
 
DAW Foundation realizes via its flexible innovative greenhouse structures on open water, a Cradle to Cradle ©-ecosystem for the food supply of large cities on the water. The project is named after the most nutricious waters in the world: Deep Arctic Water.
 
Currently, the DAW Foundation is the only organization that is able to supply the complete technology and project management with regard to greenhouses on open water. Across the world, the grounds near major cities are becoming more expensive, therefore people are looking for new solutions, including greenhouses on large open water.

DAW Foundation in Book "Business opportunities in a circular economy" - March 2016

In the book "Business opportunities in a circular economy" the innovative greenhouse construction concept by DAW Foundation is described in detail. A quote is:
 
"In 2008, DAW Foundation and its partners developed a high-tech greenhouse structure, at which, on large open waters, semi-submersible structures in the sea surface, several production layers of fish, livestock and vegetable can be explored. The greenhouse construction works in accordance with Cradle-to-Cradle principles and is completely energy self-sufficient, because it uses both solar energy, biomass from wet residues and oil from algae cultivation."
